IT teachers commended
published: Saturday | December 17, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM an Oracle Certified DBA working for a Fortune 40 Company in the United States. I did computer science at O'Level and A'Level and obtained a BSc degree in mathematics and computer science at UWI.

I would like to inform the misinformed parent from in the letter titled 'Outdated IT syllabus' that IT professionals in the U.S. still use 'mkdir' command to create folders.

In all my projects, I am required to write programmes that are used to administer enterprise-wide computer systems. I just completed writing an enterprise script that implements security patches stipulated by Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. I used the 'mkdir' command in all the scripts I wrote to get the company Oracle Databases compliant.

The IT projects I completed for my O'Level and A'Level have given me a distinct advantage on any IT project I have ever worked on. So I commend IT teachers in Jamaica for a job well done.

I am, etc.,
