THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE RECENT SPURT in police brutality is somewhat mind-boggling. I would be surprised if every citizen of this country is not concerned from those uptown to the little man in the ghetto. It is myopic for us to say it is not me, so why fear. It is clear now more than ever that none of us is safe from the callous hands of men in uniforms.
From the time of Green Bay, something should have been done to prevent such an act of lynching from recurring. If the Government at the time had punished the culprits of that incident, any police or soldier who thought to himself that he/she can abuse any citizen of this country and get away with it would think again.
TURNED A BLIND EYE
The authorities turned a blind eye on the above incident and, as a result, we have seen a string of such related incidents: Michael Gayle, Agana Barrett and a host of others. More recently we have seen police brutalise their fellow officers and nothing tangible
has been done to correct these incidents.
Finally, I have come to one conclusion, that the higher authorities do not give a damn about us down in the barracks. They are in the Great House enjoying the sweets and we are left like pigs to be slaughtered. Jamaicans, wake-up!
I am, etc.,
