KINGSTON:

THE HUMAN Resource Management Association of Jamaica's (HRMAJ) has presented its inaugural bursary of $25,000 to Clare Wilson, final-year University of the West Indies student, to help offset the cost of books and other supplies.

The bursary, presented in recognition of the association's 25th anniversary this year, is awarded to a UWI student pursing studies in human resource management with excellent academic record. It is to be offered annually in the future as a way to encourage students to pursue careers in human resource development.

Miss Wilson was selected based on her an excellent academic performance and general deportment, among other criteria.

Making the presentation during a recent ceremony in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, HRMAJ Director, Colin Barnett said the award was to commemorate the association's quarter century milestone and recognise excellence in HR studies. He added that the amount would be increased annually.

HEARTFELT GRATITUDE

In her comments, Miss Wilson expressed gratitude and said she was honoured to have been chosen as the 2005 recipient of the bursary. "I was really surprised with the award and I am grateful for the recognition and the assistance," she said.

HRMAJ, formerly the Jamaica Association for Training and Development (JATAD), is a non-profit organisation working to facilitate training and development as well as the empowerment of Jamaican communities and enterprises to achieve increased workforce productivity, job creation and competitiveness in the global marketplace.
