With a membership of 760,000, the Jamaica Cooperative Credit Union League (JCCUL) is challenging itself to lead a national pilgrimage towards a gentler, kinder, giving and forgiving society.
The challenge came from Christopher Samuda, president of the JCCUL, as he delivered his message at the National Carol Service for credit unions recently, at the University Chapel, University of the West Indies, Mona.
Mr. Samuda said the credit union movement must recognise that it has a "mandate which is not elective, but historical - not predicated on constitutional terms but a national responsibility, which must not be hidden in the bushel of social prejudices and spiritual blindness, but expressed with missionary zeal."
Heads of most of the credit unions which make up the JCCUL attended the service, in addition to representatives of the island's judiciary and financial organisations.
