AWAHSUH FASHION Show and Party held at Weekenz last Saturday only fulfilled half of what it promised.
While there was a vibrant fashion show, there was no party but simply intermittent music between segments of the show. Notwithstanding, Coppershot Disco produced great music.
Scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m., the show finally kicked off at 11:00 p.m. But even then the venue was still scanty and the number did not improve with time.
SEGMENTS
Cecilia Bucknor, the designer, showcased fashions in five segments, sports wear, free style, swimwear, lingerie and formal wear. Each design was stamped with the collection signature, 'Awahsuh', on obvious areas of the outfits. However, there was little variety between the segments.
Sportswear, the first segment, displayed fashions resembling football, netball and cheerleading uniforms along with other sexy outfits for women whether on or off the field. Although the collection featured few male fashions there were sports wear and t-shirts showcased.
The Free Style segment featured hipster pants, mini skirts (flared or straight), a few dresses and many midriffs. The collection was upbeat with lively colours like purple, blue, yellow and pink. The models obviously enjoyed themselves as they strutted, twirled and posed for the cameras.
At the end of segment two came the Awahsuh dancers. Dressed in traditional Christmas colours, resembling 'very sexy elves', the dancers began with the song Music Makes You Lose Control playing in the background and ended after five minutes of gyration.
MIXED
Swimwear began soon after but got mixed with casualwear somewhere in the presentation. While the segment started with two-piece bathing suits, halter tops and beach shorts, it soon evolved into pants suits and diagonal-cut skirts and three-quarter sleeved midriffs. One highlight was a short pink and black strapless dress, with a band around the neck and a single strap to the bust. There was also black lace at the sides.
The lingerie and formal wear segments were received best by the audience. The former section began, much to the delight of the men, with a black unitard outfit decorated with black lace and a mini dress.
THE HIGH POINT
The last segment, formal wear, ended with a wedding dress and a white-tailed suit. The high point of the segment, however, was an orange strapless dress. It had a split on the right side which opened to a glimmering black under skirt. It also had a piece of the same black material draped diagonally across the bust.
When the show concluded at 2:00 a.m., the promoter introduced Bucknor and invited the patrons to stay and enjoy the party, few took up the offer.
