What to do for the holidays

SO THE big holiday weekend is now only a few days away. Three whole days without having your boss breathing down your neck. But what to do with all that free time? Here are a few options.

It's been a rough year so why not have a hearty laugh and forget your troubles at the second annual Caribbean Christmas Crack-Up. It is a comedy show featuring comedians from across the region. Local favourites Ity and Fancy Cat, Owen 'Blakka' Ellis and Elva will also be there to tickle your funny bone. The show will be held on December 26 and 27 at the Hilton Grand Ballroom in New Kingston.

You could also check out Oliver Samuels and Friends in Patrick Brown's Class of '73. It will be playing at the Centrestage Theatre, New Kingston, throughout the holidays. Call 968-7529 for details. It promises to be fun for the entire family.

Movies are always fun. Why not take the family out to see one of several family films now showing? There's King Kong, Narnia, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Cheaper by the Dozen 2, among others, that the family can enjoy together.

EMANCIPATE YOURSELF

If you don't mind large crowds, you might want to visit Emancipation Park in New Kingston. There's always something going on there. There are always photographers around to capture those memorable moments and food vendors to satisfy even the most ravenous park-goers.

Also, Grand Market is just around the corner. The Brown's Town, Linstead, Spanish Town and Christiana grand markets are expected to be among the best this year.

Of course, there are the traditional Christmas morning church services across Jamaica.

But no matter what you decide to do with your holiday, remember that Christmas is a time to spend with family.
