What women want this Christmas
published: Saturday | December 24, 2005

Yahneake Sterling, Staff Reporter

Diamonds are a girl's best friend and they sure make great gifts any time of year, but best of all at Christmas. This year, however, women who spoke to The Gleaner wanted one of three things a car, money or a man.

Several female security guards based in downtown Kingston eagerly told us what they wanted: "A car, I don't want nothing small, I want a car," replied Sophia.

"It's too hard to move around without a car," Norda responded shyly. "A partner and some money," she added. Her sentiments were shared by her co-worker Angela who exclaimed, "Money, everybody want money!" Hosts of office workers responded by saying, "Money, lots of money!"

"A good man, not a fool-fool man, a real good man," responded Kady, a recent graduate from a popular university. "They are very rare and I need one this Christmas."

Some women, however, told The Gleaner that they didn't want much. "I just want to go to worship Christmas morning," stated Novelette, "then I want to have fun with my son and my family, just fun, lots of fun."

"Peace, quiet and rest and somebody to do the house work for me," commented Maecher, a clerical assistant.

Electronics such as cellphones and iPods can make really great gifts this time of year too, women noted. You can never lose out when you choose a one-of-a-kind fragrance such as Calvin Klein Black or Euphoria, and it could not hurt to get 'Lovely' by Sarah Jessica Parker (on Oprah's list of favourite things for 2005).

Seemingly, women have thrown traditional gifts out the window this year. So, Santa, I hope you are stocked up on cars, money and 'a real good man'.
