Students mourn schooler killed in Trinidad
published: Friday | December 30, 2005

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC):

THE ST. George's University (SGU) said Wednesday that the killers of Mark Anthony Rattan had cut short a "future (that) held much promise" for the future.

Trinidad and Tobago police said that Rattan, 18, the son of a medical practitioner, was stabbed to death after he fought off four persons, including a woman, who tried to abduct him in Tunapuna, along the east-west corridor.

Police have since held two of the men allegedly involved in the murder after Rattan's car, which they had taken from him, crashed near a police station.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the SGU said that the second year medical student had been visiting his relatives for the Christmas holidays when he was attacked and killed.

"We mourn the death of this young man, whose future held much promise and whose development meant so much to his family and our institution," the statement said.
