published: Friday | December 30, 2005

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC):

THE GRENADA Government says it will provide soft loans to farmers who are still trying to rebound from the effects of two hurricanes over the past year.

Agriculture Minister Gregory Bowen said that the soft loans and green houses to ensure a year-round vegetable supply were some of the main priorities for the agricultural sector in 2006.

Bowen said government would focus on the resuscitation of the agricultural sector through more livestock and food crop production.

However, he did not disclose the amount of money earmarked for the loan programme for the farmers.

"Our animal husbandry pro-gramme will receive a boost with the distribution of 100 pedigree goats imported from the United States, and our agriculture recovery programme will ensure that machinery and equipment for cultivation," he said.
