WESTERN BUREAU:
THE POLICE yesterday seized a 9mm Sig Sauer firearm and documents from the home of Montego Bay businessman Norman 'Shampoo' Dion during an Operation Kingfish-led raid in Coral Gardens, St. James.
"We will be trying to ascertain whether the firearm is licensed ... It was found hidden in the back of a television set," said Sergeant Steve Brown, information officer for Operation Kingfish. "The papers will be sifted through as well," he added.
Sergeant Brown was, however, tight-lipped as to why the police were investigating the 44-year-old businessman, who was present with his attorney, Nathan Robb, during the search.
Operation Kingfish is a counter-narcotics and major crimes investigation task force.
The Gleaner understands that the unit, along with members of the Special Anti-Crime Task Force, as well as the Narcotics and Canine divisions, went to the house at 140 Torado Drive, Coral Gardens, about 5:00 a.m., where they searched the premises.
RAID ON BUSINESS PLACE
A simultaneous raid targeting Dion's business place, Quic Aid Trucking and Wrecking Company Limited at Ironshore Industrial Estate, was also conducted during the five-and-a-half-hour-long operation.
Efforts by The Gleaner to contact Dion's attorney proved futile.
