It was a fat chance

LEFT: In the beginning it was a bit like pulling teeth. I was weak and had no form or definition. Since that has changed, I can look at this photo with a little smirk of what used to be. - IAN ALLEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER RIGHT: These little muscles weren't much but they were a good start. Now I have something to build on. - CARLINGTON WILMOT/FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER

MANY PERSONS thought I was a bit insane when I took up this project. How I was going to gain approximately 13lb in six months was a mystery to me. But by the end of two months I found out and was well on my way.

With the nutritional advice of Wholistic Healthcare Consultant Winsome Belnavis of New Lifestyle Wholistic Health Clinic and Spa and Mark Whyte of Sweat Shop Fitness Centre, my dream seemed to be coming true.

Within about four months I had gained five and a half lb. (51/2). I could feel it and more importantly see it. My thighs were getting noticeably toned, my shoulders developing nicely and I was simply loving my arms.

Everyone was now very interested to find out how I was doing, if it was really working. The best part is I was proud to say yes.

However, at the end of it all my dream wasn't realised. At the end of six months I was a measly 1001/2 lb. I had barely pushed over the 100-lb mark - three lb. up from the 97lb. where I had started. I now have 10lb to go and no matter how long it takes I know that eventually I'll get there.
