THEY CAME in glitters, sequinned, jewelled neckline tops, and suits, hundreds of them, from far and near.

Some from as far as Denmark, England, Canada and Hungary - all to ring in the New Year at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel Gala New Year party on Saturday night.

Thomazina Flash, 97, visiting from London, was a winner on the dance floor, as she rocked to the rhythms of Unique Vision Band.

The Peter Phillips Disco also had a great performance with hits such as Bam Bam by Toots and the Maytals. Charlie Brown by the Coasters, got the crowd 'skanking'. However, it was when the soca segment kicked in that the dance fever became contagious as patrons went for the Dollar Wine, and the Kitty Cat.

As midnight approached, couples counted down to the New Year. And at the stroke of midnight, there were shouts of 'Happy New Year', and deafening sounds of horns.

Soon after, cabaret singer Judi Emmanuel soothed the audience with sounds of soft soul music as patrons danced the night away.
