Spring deny Tulloch's birthday wish
published: Monday | January 2, 2006

Daraine Luton, Freelance Writer

MICHAEL TULLOCH wanted a similar birthday present from Arnett Gardens to that which Sir Alex Ferguson got from Manchester United Saturday.

Maybe not the same margin of victory, but three points was what the 47-year-old birthday boy asked of his team when they went up against Constant Spring in Wray and Nephew National Premier League action at Spring yesterday.

In the end, however, Tulloch had to be content with a point after his team came from behind to tie the homesters 1-1.

"I was definitely looking for three points to celebrate my birthday but sometimes what you want don't always come through. I just have to be thankful for this one point," Tulloch said.

On the half-hour mark yesterday, Cezray Twyne finished off a decent build-up effort which began in midfield with Nigel Reid and ended with him neatly slotting home from point blank after Daemion Benjamin's cross beat a jaded looking Arnett defence.

DELIVERANCE

The goal was a welcome deliverance on a promise made by 'Spring', who throughout the game looked more purposeful and seemed as if they consumed less 'spirits' on New Year's Eve.

The tired-looking Arnett managed an equaliser three minutes before half-time when Cornel Chin-Sue slid a low cross past Kirk Williams in Constant Spring's goal.

The turn of the halves brought little fortune for both teams, though in fact, Constant Spring looked most likely to score. And were it not for the left upright in Marlon Bennett's way, his 89th minute header would have finished off the Junglists.

The powerfully built defender, who was one of the few players who did not seem to be suffering from a hangover, rose high and connected a Collin Brown cross but narrowly missed.

Constant Spring's technical director Maurice 'Danny' Lyn said maybe his team needed "divine intervention".

"We created nine clear cut chances and scored only one. Whenever you score 10 percent of your chances you are in problems. We played good football but were just unable to finish off," Lyn said.

GOALSHEET

CONSTANT SPRING 1

Cezray Twyne - 30th

ARNETT GARDENS 1

Cornel Chin-Sue -42nd
