PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):
The Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board has received a TT$1 million injection for its 2006 season from the Jack Warner-led Warner Group of Companies.
Warner, more known for his financial and administrative contributions to football, made the announcement on Thursday after reaching an agreement with TTCB President, Deryck Murray.
An initial $500,000 will go towards administrative costs while $300,000 will be disbursed equally among each of the five zones.
Warner said the sponsorship was aimed at further developing the sport in T&T and ensuring that the twin-island republic was properly prepared by the time the 2007 World Cup arrived.
"People take Jack Warner and football and they put the two together, but the truth is that I am also a supporter of cricket and other sports as well and if this is another avenue that can be used for the betterment of our country and our young ones then I will make my contribution there," the Guardian newspaper quoted Warner as saying.
