Campion gets new principal
published: Friday | January 13, 2006

GRACE BASTON, former principal of Alpha Academy and acting head of the Humanities Division at the University of Technology, is the new principal of Campion College.

Mrs. Baston, who took up office last week, replaced Radley Reid, who retired at the end of December.

The new principal has given long and distinguished service to education. She started out on the teaching staff at Alpha in 1983 and worked her way through the ranks to principal.

A graduate of Alpha, Mrs. Baston holds a bachelor's degree in theology and Spanish, a diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies, and a master's degree in philosophy and education from Columbia University.

"I am very aware of the rich heritage that this school has, and so this is an honour to serve here," she told The Gleaner yesterday.

Mrs. Baston said her aim will be to maintain the academic performance of students, preserve the school spirit and broaden the sports programmes.
