VIRGIN ATLANTIC Airways, the British airline due to start flying to Jamaica on July 3, has announced the recent appointment of former Air Jamaica regional sales director Charles Spence as their new sales and marketing consultant for Jamaica.
The airline will launch two direct flights per week from Montego Bay to London's Gatwick Airport on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Mr. Spence, 40, joined Virgin this month, and brings a wealth of international experience and local knowledge with him having worked in the UK, USA as well as in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean, with two major international airlines, Air Jamaica and American Airlines.
"We are delighted to welcome Charles Spence into the Virgin Atlantic family," Sir Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Atlantic, said in a statement.
Mr. Spence, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, has formal training in airline marketing from IATA and holds a master's degree from Southbank University, London. A past student of Rusea's High, UTech and UWI, he is married with three children.
"I am delighted that Virgin Atlantic is now offering passengers a direct link between London and Montego Bay," Sir Richard said. "We are sure that our twice-weekly services will be very popular with holidaymakers as well as Jamaicans who would like to visit family and friends."
Since it was founded in 1984, Virgin Atlantic has become Britain's second largest carrier serving the world's major cities. It currently has a fleet of 33 aircraft, which includes thirteen 747's and nine A340-300s and eleven A340-600s.
