HUSSEY
THE ST. Andrew North police say they have made no breakthrough in the killing of Damion Hussey, the 22-year-old man who was beaten and stabbed, allegedly by People's National Party (PNP) supporters in Golden Spring, St. Andrew, on Sunday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Roy Boyd, told The Gleaner yesterday that his office was still interviewing persons and collecting statements in connection with the incident. However, no arrests have been made.
"Names have been called, but that's just about it right now ... investigations continue," said DSP Boyd.
A woman who identified herself as Mr. Hussey's girlfriend told The Gleaner Monday that he was having dinner at his home at 8:30 p.m. when he went outside to investigate a commotion. He was, allegedly, attacked by a mob of PNP supporters who stabbed, chopped and beat him. He was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he later died.
According to the police, the men who killed Mr. Hussey may have belonged to a group of PNP loyalists heading home from the launch of Dr. Peter Phillips' PNP presidential campaign at the National Arena.
They were reportedly attacked in Stony Hill by Jamaica Labour Party supporters. The mob, made up of about 50 persons, reportedly attacked other persons in the nearby Golden Spring area. Residents there blocked roads to protest Mr. Hussey's death on Monday.
