Cabinet to get Kennedy Grove report by month-end
published: Wednesday | January 18, 2006

THE WATER and Housing Ministry will later this month submit a report to Cabinet on the Kennedy Grove housing scheme in Clarendon.

The scheme had suffered severe flooding during the hurricane season late last year.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Genefa Hibbert made the disclosure to Parliament's Public Accounts Committee yesterday, while responding to queries from committee member, Dr. Horace Chang.

BEING FINALISED

"A comprehensive report is being finalised for submissions to Cabinet on the 23," she reported. "In fact, we provided the Infrastructure Committee of Cabinet with an update yesterday, and we are finalising some issues including some legal issues for presentation to Cabinet on January 23"

The Kennedy Grove scheme located near Palmer's Cross in Clarendon comprises nearly 200 homes, which were built in a water catchment area by a private developer in partnership with the Government.

Since 2002, the community has been flooded several times. The last flooding occurred in October 2005, when several houses were completely covered by water from Hurricane Wilma-associated rains.

In November, four Kennedy Grove residents filed lawsuits in the Supreme Court against the Government and developer, seeking millions of dollars in damages for breach of contract, negligence and breach of statutory duty.
