Managing the Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV)
published: Thursday | January 19, 2006

TRISTEZA IS caused by the Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV) which prevents plant food from flowing to the roots. The Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV) is spread by propagating trees with budwood from an infected tree or by using tools that have been contaminated by infected plant material. It can also be spread by brown citrus aphid feeding on an infected plant and transmitting the virus when it feeds on a healthy plant.

Remove diseased trees.

Replace trees on sour orange rootstock with certified plants.

Do not bring any citrus plant or plant parts into Jamaica.

Buy plants ONLY from registered nurseries.

Ensure that plants purchased bear the approved tag.
