...Truckers say they are ready to roll
published: Thursday | January 19, 2006

ANDREW HENRY, president of the Port Trailer Haulers Association, says his association has reputable truckers within it and, as such, the Customs Department should give it the recognition it deserves.

According to Mr. Henry, the Customs Department took a decision not to transport goods via the road, because of an incident that took place a long time ago.

"Once truckers are accountable for these goods, then there is no reason they cannot be transported via the road," he said during a Gleaner Editors' Forum at the company's North Street office on Tuesday.

Mr. Henry is appealing to the Customs Department to recognise his association so that an agreement can be reached which would alleviate the current situation where importers are affected by transportation via the sea.
