A NEW cruise ship, the Costa Magica, on Thursday made its first call at Ocho Rios, bringing 2,700 passengers to the popular St. Ann destination.
The ship will be visiting Ocho Rios every two weeks until April next year, according to Blossom Diedrick, general manager of Lannaman and Morris Shipping Company.
Another cruise ship, the Imagination, also docked in Ocho Rios on Thursday as part of its regular visit to that port.
Since Tuesday five cruise ships have visited Ocho Rios with another two vessels scheduled to dock in the resort town today.
The Ministry of Tourism has predicted a record winter tourist season.
Meanwhile, with Ocho Rios, being in such demand, Michael Belnavis, chairman of the Ocho Rios Cruise Shipping Council, is calling for the Government to quickly expand the port.
With Ocho Rios being "one of the most favoured ports in the Caribbean", it could attract even more cruise ships, according to Mr. Belnavis, if the berthing space was increased.
