ST. THOMAS:
THE BATH Fountain Hotel and Spa in St. Thomas was host to a group of European tourists last Friday, as a convoy of local tour buses took them to one of Jamaica's more popular leisure destinations. This was after Kingston as a cruise destination was given approval for stopover by the Astor, a European cruise liner capable of carrying 1,300 passengers.
Tourism officials hailed the visit as a welcoming sign and noted that the arrival of the Astor was one that was long in coming. David Shields, deputy director of tourism, said that efforts were being made to have more cruise ships calling on Kingston, and that from all indications the Astor's stop at Kingston represented the first of many to come.
DELIGHTED BY ENDORSEMENT
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Bath Hotel and Spa, Mr. Donald Fullock, expressed delight with the crew's decision and the endorsement of the passengers to visit the location, which he asserted was very well known in the European market.
Ethlyn Portia, a visitor from Munich, Germany, said she was very happy to be on the cruise as it was enough reason to travel with the cruise line again, knowing that Bath is a part of the package.
The mineral waters of Bath are known for their healing properties.
