Maverley take charge
published: Sunday | January 22, 2006

Daraine Luton, Freelance Writer

MAVERLEY/HUGHENDEN surged to the top of the pile in the Jamaica National sponsored KSAFA Super League after a 1-0 win over Greenwich at Tinson Pen.

The win pushed Maverly to 18 points, one clear of Meadhaven who beat Rae Town 3-0 at Breezy Castle.

Early front runners August Town claimed a point in a six-goal fiesta with Police National, a result which enabled both teams to stay within striking distance of the leaders. August Town, who won the Major League last year are four points behind Maverley in sixth place. Police National are joint third with Santos on 16 points.

Santos, who won back-to-back titles two seasons ago, were detained by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) 1-1 at Up Park Camp yesterday. JDF are fifth with 15 points.

In other games, Mountain View shut out former Premier League outfit Bull Bay 1-0 and Barbican beat Shortwood by a similar margin.
