St Jago's girls, boys sizzle in Morant Bay

ST. JAGO girls were in sizzling form at yesterday's 21st renewal of the Sports Plus/4E Howard Jackson Relays.

At the relays festival held at Paul Bogle High School, just outside of Morant Bay in St. Thomas, the Raymond 'KC' Graham-coached girls dominated proceedings with eight wins for which they collected the trophy for champion school.

The Monk Street-based school swept the sprint relays as Graham emerged the champion coach.

In the Class One 4x150m, Lishann Scott, Shanique Smikle, Jhanelle Brown and MeLissa Ogbourne stopped the clock in 1:18.0 for the win.

The Class Two 4x150m quartet of Denisha Powell, Natasha Ruddock, Taneisha Baker and Sasha-Kaye Mattias won in 1:16.3, while the Class Three team of Javene Bennett, Tanya Colier, Tashana Francis and Natassia Walker secured Class Three in 1:19.2

The Class Four quartet of Shanice Shaw, Sanmantha Scarlett, Shantoya Lee, Rochelle Anderson won in 1:22.3.

Queen's (1:18.0) and (1:17.2), along with Morant Bay (1:20.8) and Tacius Golding (1:23.4) finished behind St. Jago in classes onefour respectively.

St. Jago also won the 4x300m for Class Three girls in 2:52.8 ahead of Wolmer's 2:56.2 and St. Thomas (2:57.6); Class Two 4x600 in 7:08.4 over St. Thomas 8:28.9 and Class Three in 7:22.4, ahead of St. Thomas (7:52.0.

St. Jago's other win came in the girls distance medley.

Queen's won three relays. Queen's (2:46.7) beat St. Jago (2:48.3) who were without World Youth 200m bronze medallist Latoya King in the Class Two 4x300m.

Queen's also took the Class One 4x300m in 2:48.3. St. Jago, who led into the straight, suffered when their anchor leg runner fell.

Queen's won the Class Four 4x300m in 3:01.7 over Morant Bay (3:04.4).

St. Jago also did well in the boys' section, winning three relays while Calabar took two.

St. Jago (1:08.4) took the Class Two 4x150m event over Holmwood (1:09.0). They ran 1:16.4 for the Class Four 4x150m to beat KC (1:16.6) and secured the 4x600m Class Two in 5:58.4, ahead of Claude McKay (5:59.8).

Wolmer's (1:06.9) beat Calabar (1:07.5) for the 4x150 Class One title. Calabar (1:13.3) came away winners in Class Three over Wolmer's (1:13.9).

In the 4x600m events, Holmwood (5:37.8) beat JC (5:41.3) in Class One; and KC (6:18.5) beat Calabar (6:31.1) in Class Three.
