
BAILEY
MEET A social geographer, Dr. Corin Bailey. He is currently the project coordinator for the UNODC South-South Crime Prevention Project at the UWI, Mona.
Better known for his exploits on the track and football fields, this gifted athlete is also making his mark academically and professionally in a challenging field - social geography.
Dr. Bailey credits his mother for introducing him to geography, but eventually chose this field because he was always very interested in social geography in high school. Dr. Bailey attended Hillel Academy before finishing up sixth form at Wolmer's Boys' School.
He was 26 years old when he was awarded his Ph.D. in 2004 from the UWI for his thesis, 'Crime and Social Exclusion in the Kingston Metropolitan Area'. He completed his bachelor's degree with a first class honours in 1999 at the UWI with a thesis on 'Fear of Crime in the Kingston Metropolitan Area'.
ATHLETICS
Corin is known as one of UWI's most celebrated athletes. He was Irvine Hall's Sportsman of the Year in 2001. He was also voted off-campus Irvinite of the Year in 2000 and 2001. Corin was also a member of the UWI track and field team from 1999 through 2002, representing UWI in the 200 and 400 metres. His greatest sporting accomplishment was to captain the UWI contingent to the Intercampus games in 2000.
