Henry boots home four
published: Thursday | January 26, 2006

The 12-1 outsider Prior Park (Allen Maragh) passes the post first ahead of Peckus Out (No.8) and Royal Sea (along the rails) in the seventh race over 1200 metres at Caymanas Park yesterday. However, both the winner and runner-up Peckus Out were disqualified for causing multiple interferences in the straight. The race was awarded to 9-2 shot Royal Sea. - IAN ALLEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

FORMER CHAMPION jockey Wesley 'Callaloo' Henry highlighted the year's first midweek meet at Caymanas Park yesterday, thanks to a smashing four-timer on the nine-race programme.

Among his winners was 3-1 chance RAZZAK in the day's feature, race No I in the Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) Claiming Series ($20,000 and less) over the straight five course.

Henry also booted home the front running ALLEGRO at 5-2 for veteran trainer Ivanhoe 'Skit' Williams in the first race over the circular nine course, the 3-y-o debutante SWING BY at 1-5 in the second over 1300 metres, and NIJINSKY'S WAR at 9-5 for trainer Frank Parham in the closing race.

ASSUMED THE LEAD

By virtue of this four-timer, Henry has assumed the lead in the jockeys' standings with seven winners, two ahead of the previous leaders Shane Ellis and the suspended Paul Francis jointly in second.

RAZZAK won the feature by only a neck from highly fancied ZEALOT with SIR KNIGHT (6-1) finishing third in the 11-strong field.

The 7-y-o gelding was held just off the early pace as highly fancied HEAVENLY DREAMS (3-1) led at a fast clip in mid-track from ZEALOT and SWEET JADE and SIR KNIGHT. He got into top gear leaving the furlong pole and stormed through in mid-track for a narrow win.

RAZZAK is trained by Rowan Mathie on behalf of Jockey's Enterprise, an outfit including former jockeys Fitzroy Glispie and Errol Burke.

Henry said: "Right now I have overcome the effects of my fall from Good To Go in the 2004 Superstakes and I'm fit and well once again. Looking ahead I plan to ride here full time this year. This could be a good year for me, but as far as the championship is concerned, I'm not making any predictions."

Meanwhile PRIOR PARK (12-1), ridden by Allen Maragh, became the first winner to be disqualified this season when his number was taken down after passing the post first, this for causing multiple interference in mid-stretch.

Following a lengthy stewards' inquiry, the race was awarded to the third horse ROYAL SEA (9-2) as the stewards also disqualified the runner-up PECKUS OUT (8-1) for interfering with RAJPUT in the last furlong.
