Wadadah, Boys' Town sent packing

PREMIER LEAGUE teams Wadadah and Boys' Town were sent crashing out of the Red Stripe Champions Cup knockout all-island tournament, following near-identical finishes in yesterday's return-leg first round matches.

Wadadah, which were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw in last week's first-leg game against St. Elizabeth Super League team Tafari Lions at Jarrett Park, were eliminated by the away goal rule as they were held to a 0-0 draw playing away to the St. Elizabeth team in Lacovia.

Constant Spring held their nerve to out-shoot fellow Corporate Area premier league team Boys' Town 3-0 on penalties to win the second leg of their match at Collie Smith Drive.

Having played to a 0-0 draw after full time and 30 minutes extra time, Oneil Morrison, Daemion Benjamin and Dwayne Johnson converted from the spot for Constant Spring to finally break the deadlock between the teams who had also played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg. Constant Spring were reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Gaymeon Watkins in the 79th minute with a second yellow card.

Another Montego Bay team, Salt Spring, also went out at the first hurdle, though predictably, as they slumped to a 0-3 aggregate loss.

Salt Spring had lost last week's opening match 0-2 in Portland against St. George's, and suffered another defeat - 0-1 - in a hot-tempered game at Jarrett Park in which the MoBay team lost two players via the red card route.

In another game in western Jamaica yesterday, Westmoreland's Reno FC, which went into their home match at the Frome Sports Complex with a 2-0 first-leg advantage against Cavalier, carved out a 4-1 aggregate scoreline after registering a 2-1 win.

The competition continues this afternoon with six matches. They are (first round scores in brackets): Negril FC (0) vs Rivoli United (3) at White Hall Housing Scheme, Humble Lion (0) vs Maverley-Hughenden (1) at Effortville Community Centre, Mount Pelier (0) vs Seba United (4) at Mount Pelier Field, StandFast (0) vs. Star Cosmos (0) at Addison Park, Bath Sports Club (1) vs Los Perfectos (1) at Bath Primary and Junior High school, and DB Basovak (0) vs. Clarks Town (0) at Spanish Town Prison Oval. All matches are set to kick-off at 3:00 p.m.
