Campbell denies being sacked
published: Friday | January 27, 2006

CAMPBELL

COLIN CAMPBELL, deputy general secretary of the People's National Party (PNP), has denied reports that he was to be booted from the party secretariat in the wake of his decision to support leadership contender, Portia Simpson Miller.

According to Mr. Campbell he will, as of next Monday, officially go on leave from his duties at the secretariat for four weeks.

He said that during the period he will lead the communications arm of the Portia Simpson Miller campaign for leadership of the PNP.

CONFIRMATION

Yesterday PNP general secretary Burchell Whiteman issued a statement confirming that Mr. Campbell had applied for and received approval to proceed on four weeks vacation from the secretariat.

Mr. Whiteman's statement noted that Mr. Campbell indicated he would, during his leave, assist the Team Portia campaign in the area of communication. Mr. Whiteman said he welcomed Mr. Campbell's principled stand in taking leave to assist a campaign which he supports.
