Why delay new postal codes?
published: Friday | January 27, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

APPROXIMATELY FIVE months ago the public were advised, with much fanfare, on TV, press and radio, that Jamaica would have new international postal codes forthwith.

I advised business associates and family, and memorised same. Numerous letters I have sent have been returned with notations like 'try Kgn 6' on the envelope. I made enquiries at Kingston 6 Post Office on January 13, only to be told that the new codes are 'on hold'. Why has the public not been advised with the same fanfare that this is the case?

However, it is noted that Barbados has gone ahead and joined the modern world in their postal codes. What is the reason for the delay in Jamaica?

I am, etc.,

JOSEPHINE BOGUES
