Vere chalk up massive win

SHELDON CRAWFORD and Omelie Forde cracked centuries to help Vere Sports Club to beat Lionel Town by 270 runs in the South East Clarendon Community Cricket League.

Crawford, 119 and Forde, 111, shared in a third-wicket partnership of 221 as Vere declared their innings at 364-9.

Kerron Thomas with 3-46 and Calvert Whittaker 3-84 were the most successful bowlers for Lionel Town.

In reply, Lionel Town were bowled out for 94 as only Thomas with 46 not out made any useful contribution. Pacer Anthony Valentine claimed 3-24 and Gifton Wray 2-10.

In another game, Mitchell Town recorded their first win in three starts, beating Portland Cottage by two wickets.

Scores: Portland Cottage ­ 170 all out (Roy Gopie 73, Marlon Lewis 36; Marville Swack 4-34); Mitchell Town 171-8 (David Bonner 29, Krishmar Santokie 27, Lionel Hope 3-12).

With one set of matches in the preliminary round remaining, Portland Cottage lead Group A with six points from three games, while Vere S.C. lead Group B with maximum nine points from three matches.
