THE EDITOR, Sir:
Every day that passes, my pain is made worse by the current state of my beloved country Jamaica people living in
such perilous conditions and
most worryingly, the youth's
exposure to such extensive violence.
The story of poor Zanute broke my heart. The positive things tend to be superseded by the negative and we embrace them. Why?
I'm a Jamaican living in London for the past six years. I have never returned to my homeland and to be entirely honest, it's due to fear that I won't be safe. Why do we do this to our own people? However, I want to confront my fears and pay a visit very soon because as frightened as I may be, I know that there are beautiful people there. I grew up there until I was seventeen so I am not very familiar with the way of modern living in Jamaica, but I'm sure there are lots of positive things that can be said about my homeland.
I would like to encourage all Jamaicans who are upholding a positive outlook on life in Jamaica. Keep on believing that things will get better for all of us. We need to stick together, not kill each other. I pray that one day my people will understand that the situation will not get any better if we continue to hurt each other. The only way to change our situation is by a collective effort made by all people. Only we can change what we have done!
I am, etc.,
