T&T soldiers accused of killing American
published: Monday | January 30, 2006

PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD (AP):

Trinidad police arrested four soldiers in connection with the kidnapping and slaying of a United States army veteran, and more arrests were expected, the country's police chief said Saturday.

The soldiers were arrested Friday, said Police Commissioner Trevor Paul, who declined further comment. By law, the soldiers won't be identified until they make a court appearance.

The detentions come two weeks after three others were charged with the murder of Balram Bachu Maharaj, 62, of Mount Vernon, New York. Those charged included Doreen Alexander-Durity, Maharaj's former lover.
