THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN JANUARY 2005, I visited the UHWI for an appointment with the Cardiac Unit as I was experiencing cardiac-related problems. I was diagnosed with rheumatic fever as a child. I was given an April 8 appointment. On the date of my appointment, by divine order, I saw a Dr. William Foster who upon examining me, diagnosed my condition - aortic incompetence. To correct it he said that I needed surgery as my heart was enlarged. I told him I couldn't afford surgery and without delay, he then went on his cellphone, calling some hospitals abroad to take me on as a charitable case.
He called about three hospitals abroad as he was unsuccessful in the first two attempts, but he continued relentlessly until he landed the right hospital free of charge (talk about a miracle from God). I was bowled over and startled by his hands-on approach, concern and helpful attitude towards me, bearing in mind that I never even knew him before.
A few days after, he visited my place of employment and waited for over one hour to talk to the President & CEO for financial assistance on my behalf for the airfare, which resulted in my favour. To make matters even more moving, on that same day, his motor car was not working and he had taken a taxi to my office. He then worked assiduously in getting me and my mom (as I had to be accompanied) on a flight as the flights were all booked out, and I had to work with the hospital's schedule in the U.S.A.
PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
To top things off, he even sees his patients off. I was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted by him at the airport at 5:30 a.m. for a 7:00 a.m. flight (with a copy of The Sunday Gleaner for me to read whilst I was away). I fail to fathom how this very distinguished and noble gentleman has not been given a national award!
Mr. Editor, thank you for allowing me to use this medium to say publicly - A big thank you to the staff of LOJ, especially Rosemarie Henry for her relentless efforts in assisting with my lodging expenses. Thanks be to God for giving Jamaica's Health Ministry genuine, caring doctors such as DR. WILLIAM FOSTER. Doctor of Every Year! You are indeed a true servant of the Lord and indeed the legacy of your deceased father still lives on today - God Bless you!!!
A healthy and joyous new year to you! Your completely healed & healthiest patient,
