St. Ann Spelling Bee Champion Janielle Richards of the Ocho Rios Primary School.
PREPARATION IS the key to success and Janielle Richards is the proof.
The Ocho Rios Primary pupil was always a 'bright' student and coupled with the techniques of her coach, won the St. Ann title of the Spelling Bee.
"I'm going to Kingston to show that someone from St. Ann can also be a winner," she says confidently. Despite her ability, her mother Althea Richards had to coax her to enter the spelling bee.
"When she looked at the GSAT curriculum, she said 'mommy, I'm not going into this' (spelling)," she recalls. Her father Charles knows his daughter is gifted.
HIGH HOPES
"She loves to study. She'll come to me and say 'daddy it's your turn'. I'll be there calling the words and she will spell just about anything and not missing any either," he said.
All three expect Janielle to do well with at least a top-seven finish.
Janielle wants to attend Westwood High in September.
