Following in her brother's footsteps - Jody-Ann Allen, St. Elizabeth
published: Wednesday | February 1, 2006

Jody-Ann Allen displays the St. Elizabeth Parish Champion trophy.

EVERYONE SHOULD have known the Glen Stuart Primary pupil Jody-Ann Allen would have been a Spelling Bee Champion; it's in her genes.

"My brother Omar Brooks won in 2001 and my teacher thought I had the ability to do it," she said. Jody-Ann is confident she can win in Kingston with the help of her mother.

TRAINING SESSIONS

"My mother helps me by calling the words and gives me words from the spelling book," she said. This 'training session' goes until about 11:00 p.m. in addition to the three and a half hours she does at school.

Her father Delroy Allen was full of praise for his little girl. "I would like her to win because she's bright and not afraid to spell," he said.

Jody-Ann wants to become a lawyer but she's also quite the track star, representing her parish in national competitions.

She wants to attend Manchester High in September.
