Young journalist - Khandae Wright, Kingston
published: Wednesday | February 1, 2006

Khandae Wright of Mavisville Preparatory, the Kingston Parish Champion.

THE KINGSTON Parish final of the Spelling Bee is always competitive, making Khandae Wright's victory even more special.

The fifth-grade student at Mavisville Prep is the second youngest competitor in the national final but is confident she will do well. "I might be young but I'll just have to do the work," she said. Khandae is only 10 years old so she's eligible for two more years.

JOURNALIST

"I'm not sure about next year. Maybe if I don't win, then I'll come back," she says. She has one eye set on being a journalist. Her mother Pauline Wright describes her as an unassuming child with good work ethic. She believes the experience will be good for Khandae.

"It helps her to develop good habits like general discipline and time management. She also can focus more on things that are beneficial to her," she says. Khandae would like to attend either Wolmer's or Ardenne next year.
