Arnett eager to test Harbour View's mettle
published: Wednesday | February 1, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

( L - R )KEVIN WILSON, LUTON SHELTON, GEORGE VERNAL AND JOMO GORDON

LEADERS HARBOUR View will host Arnett Gardens in the feature of three Wray and Nephew National Premier League matches today, at Harbour View Mini Stadium at 6:30 p.m.

In the other games, title-chasing Waterhouse welcome Boys' Town to Drewsland at 4:30 p.m and Tivoli Gardens travel to face the dangerous Constant Spring for their 3:00 p.m. appointment.

Harbour View, winless in their last four premier league games and six in all competitions, will be hoping to set things straight against Arnett Gardens.

The Stars of the East have not won a game since December 21 when they edged Village 2-1 at Compound and have seen their lead atop the premier league cut from 13 points to eight.

They lead the standings on 51 points ahead of Waterhouse on 43, with last year's winners Portmore third on 35 and Village on 34 some distance back.

Donovan Hayles, coach of Harbour View, says there is still no need to panic at this stage.

CONCERN

"My only concern is that we need to start winning games now. It has been six games without winning and that is thought for concern. But I am not panicking because we know that once we get back on track we'll push the advantage home."

Luton Shelton, Kevin King, Arnett discard Loxley Thoomas and Fabian Taylor will lead Harbour View's charge. By and large, have had the better of Arnett Gardens this season in three meetings, winning their two previous premier league encounters 3-0 and 3-1, while losing the End-of-Round final 1-2.

Arnett Gardens, with Kwame Richardson, Kevin 'Pele' Wilson and Gregg Taylor leading their scoring, are currently sixth on 31 points and coach Michael Tulloch says, his team is training well.

"The last two weeks the team has been training well and once the right Arnett shows up tomorrow, no doubt the result.

"Right now we want to have Waterhouse right on their tail to see if they have that mettle to be true champions. So we need to put as much pressure on them as we can," he added.

The red-hot Waterhouse will be hoping to keep the pressure on the leaders but their task will not be an easy one either.

In two premier league outings this season, Waterhouse have failed to beat Boys' Town. In October at Drewsland both teams played to a 0-0 draw, while the return fixtures saw a late Jomo Gordon goal earning a 2-2 draw at Collie Smith Drive.

SURPRISE TEAM

Newly-promoted Boys' Town, spurred with some important goals from George Vernal who joined them this season, are sitting on 28 points in seventh position, just behind their neighbours Arnett and Tivoli Gardens.

They have proven to be the surprise team this season and with a little bit of luck, the Red Brigade could even be further up the pecking order after squandering the lead on numerous occasions late in their games.

The struggling Constant Spring will prove to be a dangerous team for the visiting Tivoli Gardens.

The Danny Lyn-coached team occupies bottom position on 16 points apiece with Rivoli, but are most dangerous at this time of the year.

Tivoli Gardens are in fifth position on 32 points, 16 more than opponents, but will have to be very careful not to fall prey to the resurgent Constant Spring.
