DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Holy Family Primary scored a come from behind 2-1 win in extra time to defeat Clan Carthy in the final in the 2006 CB Chicken/ Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/ Art & Fabric/WATA-sponsored Kingston and St.Andrew Primary Schools football final at the National Stadium yesterday.

Holy Family, who dominated the first half, found themselves trailing after just three minutes when Davanie Bogle latched onto a ball which had ricoheted off defender Andre McCarthy and slotted it into the back of the Holy Family net.

Bogle should have doubled Clan Carthy's lead in the 17th minute after receiving a glorious through pass from Tuwaney Roberts, but he kicked over the crossbar.

Holy Family had to wait until the stroke of half-time to equalize when a long range shot from striker Martell Kerr went straight over goalkeeper Brian Pinnock's head and into the back of the Clan Carthy net, to ensure a tied game at the interval.

MISSED CHANCES

The second half, also of a 30-minute duration, was very evenly contested, with both teams missing clear-cut chances. Holy Family's Patrick Brown missed from point-blank range, firing wide of the post, while Clan Carthy's Davian MataQue, after being sent through by Roberts, let off a very weak shot.

Holy Family would secure the title later as Chad Bennett, who came on as a substitute in the second half, put them in front for good in extra-time when he met a corner kick from Patrick Brown and easily turned it into the Clan Carthy goal.

Percival 'Itesman' Cordwell, Holy Family's coach, said: "We came to defend our title and we did just that and I am very happy."

Coach of the Clan Carthy team, Sergeant Norman McGibbon, was a very disappointed man.

"I am very disappointed but the Holy Family team was the better on the day. But I am very proud of my players," he said.
