Jagdeo visits Cuba for talks with Castro
published: Thursday | February 2, 2006

JAGDEO

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA (CMC):

President Bharrat Jagdeo left Guyana yesterday for Cuba to hold talks with Cuban President Fidel Castro to help expand medical services available here.

Jagdeo explained that during the Guyana/Cuba joint meeting held in Barbados last December, he and Castro "spoke about several initiatives, using Cuba's professionals and equipment to bolster our medical services in Guyana."

Some of the initiatives "will be financed by the Cuban Government as a gesture of goodwill," while others would be funded by the Guyana government, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
