Regional integration
published: Thursday | February 2, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

HEARTEST CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the bold step to regional integration, a move which no doubt should benefit all stakeholders. But how much of us Jamaicans know what this move entails? I think for a move such as this, every Jamaican should have first-hand knowledge of how this can benefit or not benefit all of us. The man on the street needs to be aware, in his common term, what this can do for him. We all need to be a part of what is happening.

Does this mean that the farmers will (a) have to produce more and better crops? (b) Funding will be more accessible to the small farmers at a lower interest rate? What of growth in the economy and free movement of individuals from one region to the next, taking into consideration the trouble we Jamaicans have in getting work permits? Sir, could the media houses shed some light on this? I think 'Pressa' and 'Bro P.' could be the first to start.

I am, etc.,

ROSE V. GRAHAM
