Disappointed in the mayor

THE EDITOR, Sir:
DESMOND MCKENZIE, as Mayor of Kingston, occupies a position of opulence, prominence and influence and, if truth be told, he has gracefully carried forth his mayoral responsibility with efficiency and transparency; a hard-working mayor he is. As a result, he has gained the admiration of many persons, including myself. Therefore, I was quite disappointed with certain utterances that came from his mouth recently.
On Sunday, January 21, while watching the news on CVM television, sections of the JLP area council meeting were highlighted and Mr. McKenzie branded the four contenders vying for the presidency of the PNP as "jeyes bottles with four different labels". How can it be that such an influential person makes such a demeaning utterance?
At a time when moral degradation and social decadence are rampant in our society, I am of the opinion that our leaders ought to display a high level of decorum and decency, both on and off the political platform, because if they fail to do so, it could set a dangerous precedent toward indiscipline. Having grasped this concept, I call on Mr. McKenzie to apologise to those of us who have placed much confidence in him.
I am, etc.,
