ST. VINCENT: St Vincent to review citizenship laws
published: Friday | February 3, 2006

GONSALVES

KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT (CMC):

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the country's law governing citizenship is too lax and has indicated that his government will be moving to correct the situation.

Gonsalves, who is also Minister of National Security, says his administration will, this year, review the Citizen-ship Act of 1984 with the view to stren-gthening the legislation.

He said he had been advised that persons were being granted citizenship in circumstances that offended the legislation and against this background, he has ordered an inquiry with a view to breaking any existing citizenship ring.
