Exposing people to Jamaica's customs

Dear Robert:

MY NAME is Collis Glasgow from Guyana, residing in the USA; New York to be exact. There is a sweetness to the stories that you have written about the different communities in Jamaica.

This is one of the main reasons why I make sure I read The Gleaner every day. I do wish you success in your endeavours and hope that your work continues to educate others in this aspect of journalism, and the history and customs of the people in different parts of Jamaica. I do enjoy reading your columns, continue the good work, man.

Makes me feel good about 'yard'

Dear Robert:

I JUST finished reading your piece in The Gleaner on Mocho, and I must say it was so good and refreshing. I was yearning for more at the end. I felt that I could go on reading about Mocho for the next five hours. The Gleaner is my regular and main source for news about my beloved Jamaica here in Los Angeles.

Over 35 years ago I left Jamaica with my family to live abroad, so I have spent more time away than in Jamaica. I make it my duty to return every year even though I have very few relatives there. So when I get positive news or stories like yours it make me feel good about the little piece of paradise we call 'yard'. Please keep up the good work and write more about other towns. It is much better than reading about murders.

Felt like I was in Mocho

Dear Robert:

WELL WRITTEN article. You made me feel like I was there in Mocho as well.

Keep up the good work!

How many Mochos in Jamaica?

Dear Robert:

I HAVE enjoyed reading your columns; keep them coming.

I am originally from Mocho in Clarendon, and I would like to know how many Mochos are in Jamaica?

God bless you on your journeys

Dear Robert:

JUST A word to encourage you on the articles that you do. I must say that I read a few of them and they are very interesting. Keep up the good work in writing good, humorous articles. I like your style of writing. Sometimes you make your readers, like myself, feel like they are actually at the places you wrote about.

God bless you and your photographer on your journey to these places.

Let the people speak

Dear Robert:

I AM a Jamaican in Germany doing research. I read your column regularly and think that it is a wonderful idea. I just wanted to suggest one thing though, that you share more of the knowledge you gain from the people in the communities with your readers.

Let the people speak for themselves. You give more of your perceptions of what is going on, when the people can tell their own stories. I am sure many readers like me were interested in more of what Miss Mattie had to say.

Keep up the great work, and I hope this will be a permanent feature of The Gleaner.

Wish I was back home

Dear Robert:

I HAVE been reading The Gleaner (online) here in Canada. Your articles are very good.

Your trips to those interesting places in Jamaica bring out so much. I hope the powers that be are taking notice and do something to alleviate the living condition in those communities that you and your team visit.

As I read your articles, I wish I was back home.

Please keep up the good work.
