SPELLING BEE FINALS: Doing well without a coach
published: Friday | February 3, 2006

Oshane Williams, Clarendon

HE WAS never the most vocal speller nor the most demonstrative, but Oshane Williams knows his words.

Oshane is the two-time Clarendon champion and even though his principal and coach, Rev. Dr. Donald Johnson, is now at another school, he remains confident.

"I'm studying more this year and apart from my parents, I'm getting help at school," he said.

His father, Bernard Williams, was among those cheering for him last year. He is optimistic Oshane can still do well despite not having a formal coach since December.

"He has been doing a lot of work. Knowing that he's been parish champion for two years, he has improved," he said.

Oshane has decided he wants to attend Edwin Allen High next school year, and if they have a spelling bee programme, he would go for another parish title. He wants to become a doctor.
