WESTERN BUREAU:
A 19-YEAR-OLD man, who was being sought by the Falmouth police in an alleged shooting incident, which occurred last October, was arrested on Tuesday night after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm. The find brings to two, the number of illegal firearms seized by police in the parish since the start of this year.
According to the police, Jeffrey Downer was accosted on Wakeland Drive in the town of Falmouth. Inspector Clive Brown, acting crime chief for Trelawny, told The Gleaner that Downer, a blockmaker of Race Course, Falmouth, was seen about 9:45 p.m. when he was accosted and searched by the police. A home-made gun, containing a 9mm round, was taken from him. Two additional rounds were also found in his pocket.
Downer was wanted in connection with an October 13 incident at Green Park, Trelawny, in which he allegedly pulled a firearm and discharged a bullet. He is scheduled to appear in the Western Regional Gun Court on Monday, where he will answer charges of shooting and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
