published: Friday | February 3, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

ST. JAGO and Wolmer's both closed out the first round of the KFC-sponsored ISSA High School Basketball with perfect records following impressive victories over Ardenne and Vauxhall on Wednesday.

St. Jago, who topped the Southern Conference Zone A, have racked up an imposing 8-0 record with 16 points and in their final game of the first round easily got by Ardenne 44-40.

Captain Adrian Forbes top-scored for the team with 16 points, but spent most of the game on the bench, as the substitutes were given a lot of playing time.

In the day's other Zone A game, an outstanding performance by Deameatrio Wade, in which he scored 50 points pushed Excelsior past Meadowbrook in an 88-62 victory.

Excelsior now finish in third place with a 6-2 record behind St. Catherine who end the first round with a 6-1 record - their only loss of the season coming against zone leaders St. Jago.

Jamaica College wrapped up the fourth and final spot available on Wednesday when they turned back Campion 68-38.

In zone B action, Wolmer's Boys confirmed their place at the top of the table when they easily defeated Vauxhall at home.

The teams will now prepare to face each other in the competitions second round which gets under way next Monday.
