SARAJEVO, (Reuters):

OPERA STAR tenor Luciano Pavarotti will sing for Bosnians in Sarajevo on April 8 as part of his 40-city farewell world tour, concert organisers said on Friday.

Pavarotti's concert in Sarajevo, where he sang once 40 years ago, would crown a decade of efforts to raise funds through recordings, auctions and charity concerts for child victims of Bosnia's 1992-95 war, Arian Entertainment agency said.

"It is our honour to host Luciano Pavarotti, one of the rare artist who have done a lot for Bosnia and promoted it throughout the world," Sarajevo Canton Sports and Culture Minister Ivica Saric, himself a bass, told a news conference.

Saric said Italian soprano Carmela Remiglio would sing with Pavarotti and they would be followed by the Sarajevo Philharmony.

SPECIAL AWARD

In 1997, Pavarotti was given a special award for raising US$8.88 million to set up a musical therapy centre for war-affected children in the southern town of Mostar with his entertainment industry friends Bono Vox and Brian Eno.

Pavarotti started in a church choir at the age of five and went on to became the most successful classical artist in the history of the recording industry and popularised opera in the Three Tenors concerts with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras.
