Ruddock shines at hurdles meet

THERE WERE several good performances at Saturday's Youngster Goldsmith Hurdles and Field event classic at the National Stadium east complex.

St. Jago's Natasha Ruddock raced to an impressive 13.7 seconds in the 100m hurdles, better than the open women's winning time of 14.2 produced by senior Toni-Ann Doiley of Racers Track Club.

Todea Kay Willis of St. Andrews (14.1) and Alpha's Shamaine Williams (14.2) trailed Ruddock, while Immaculate's Kimberley Laing (15.2) and Edwin Allen's Latoya Nation (15.8) finished behind Doiley.

St. Jago's Shanice Shaw won the Class Four 70m event in 11.51 ahead of Nichiesha Burnette of Wolmer's (11.60) while Manchester's Leslie-Ann Mitchell (11.95) took the Class Three girls 80 event in 11.95 ahead of Vere's Lanice Hall (12.38).

Akeem Smith of Wolmer's won the boys Class One 110m hurdles in 14.77, beating Akeil Facey (15.12) while KC swept the boys' Class Two 110m hurdles with Kerion Stewart (14.51), Andre Peart (14.90) and Kimarley Henry (15.79).

The 400m open for girls saw Edwin Allen's Sherene Pinnock winning in a season best 58.28 ahead of Manchester's Judith Riley (60.78) and Edwin Allen's Andrea Sutherland (61.31).

The men's open event went to Norbert Miller of It Dat in 53.38 ahead of Leford Green of KC (53.48) and Keith Ramsay, also of It Dat ( 56.30).

BIG LEAP

Holmwood's Rose-Marie White won the girls' triple jump open with a leap of 11.89 metres, beating Morant Bay's Kimona Smith (11.75 ) and her teammate Salcia Slack (11.45).

Slack returned to win the girls' Class Two discus with a throw of 37.20 metres, but secured another third place finish in the Class Two long jump with a leap of 5.13m, beaten by St. Jago's Sasha-Kaye Matthias (5.25m).

Alecia Collins of Holmwood won the girls' Class Three high jump by clearing 1.60 metres, the same as St. Andrew High's Shanna Creary and Immaculate's Terri-Ann Grant for second and third respectively.

Vere's Shanika Thompson won the girls' Class One high jump with a leap of 1.69 over St. Jago's Marsha Matthias (1.67m).

In the boys' Class One long jump, Julian Reid of Wolmer's (7.28m) beat Calabar's Nicholas Gordon (6.90m ). Ricardo Haye, also of Wolmer's led the boys' high jump with a leap of 1.84m over Javon Hardware of Calabar (1.81m).

In the 400m hurdles for under-17 boys, Nicholas Brown of Camperdown was first across the line in 57.47 seconds, ahead of Wolmer's Dwayne Extol 58.17. Manchester's Shana-Gay Tracey won the girls' 300m hurdles event in 43.56 over St. Jago's Yanique Hay (45.15).

Wolmer's Leon Pitt (1.55m) won the boys' Class Four high jump ahead of KC's Marzel Miller (1.50m).

Andre Wellington won the men's invitational 100m in 11.22 ahead of It Dat's Marvin Dixon (11.72) while It Dat's Janice Daley (12.87) took the female section over St. Jago's Danisha Powell (13.14).

Vere's Keneisha Throughsingh (12.86m) won the girls shot put open while Bridgeport's Raymond Brown took the boys' Class One event with a throw of 16.54m.

Sharif Small of JC won the discus for Class One boys with a throw of 45.93.

In the medley relays, KC (3:33.72) won the boys' event over Manchester (3:39.71) while St. Andrew (4:06.64) took the girls' title over Queens (4:07.76).
