GOVERNOR-GENERAL Sir Howard Cooke has been given life membership to the 110-year-old Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).
Sir Howard was given his credentials on Tuesday during a courtesy call at King's House by JAS president Senator Norman Grant and other members of the agricultural society. The Governor-General, who is to demit office this month, was also presented with a plaque and medal of honour for his outstanding support to the JAS and the various agricultural events across the island and for his contribution to the development of agriculture.
"Not only has this great man advocated and motivated Jamaicans to get involved in the sector, but he has also led by example," Senator Grant said. He noted that Sir Howard has planted a number of fruit trees, directed the rearing of goats and rabbits at King's House and has contributed to the growth of the rabbit population on the island by donating 10 pairs of rabbit to the 4-H Club which distributed the offsprings to clubbites islandwide.
