Islam's intolerance

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS GREAT outpouring of anger and protest by Muslims around the world over the publication of cartoons critical of the Prophet Muhammad is yet another example of the intolerance and hypocrisy of Islam.

The cartoons regularly published in the Muslim press are not just critical, but denigrating to Jews, Christians and Western culture in general. In their opinion, any religion or way of life outside that of Islam is inferior and satanic, and people who share a different belief to theirs are nothing but infidels.

This intolerance is carried by the millions of Muslims who migrate to mainly Western Christian countries where, upon being accepted into these cultures, use the democratic rights and freedoms available to establish their mosques and practise their religion. All well and good, but, it doesn't stop there. These Muslims then require their host country and its people to put aside their laws and beliefs and allow them to live as if they were in Mecca.

Religious tolerance is not a one-way street. Islam must accept the existence of beliefs other than its own.
